 RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Conduct classroom instruction on building trades theory, providing students with a comprehensive understanding of commercial construction principles and practices.
  2. Oversee the construction of on-site projects, ensuring that students receive practical, hands-on experience under safe and supervised conditions.
  3. Stay abreast of advancements in the field, including new products, techniques, and regulations, and incorporate relevant updates into the curriculum.
  4. Monitor safety protocols during student operation of equipment and maintain a safe working environment in both the shop and on-site construction areas.
  5. Manage inventory and equipment, ensuring that necessary supplies are available for instructional purposes and that all equipment is properly maintained.
  6. Collaborate with customers to understand their educational needs in commercial construction and tailor instruction accordingly. Coordinate subcontractors and oversee timely material deliveries to meet project deadlines.
  7. Interpret blueprints and utilize computer-aided drafting tools to support instructional activities and project planning.
  8. Assist with student recruitment efforts and participate in public relations activities to promote the building trades program and Lake Area Technical College as a whole.
  9. Other duties as assigned.

  

REPORTS TO: Department Supervisor, Dean of Academics, Vice President

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  1. Associates of Applied Science degree in a relevant field preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  2. Minimum of three years of experience in commercial construction, with a strong understanding of building trades theory and techniques.
  3. Experience and strong background with concrete a plus.
  4. Proficiency in computer-aided drafting software and other relevant technology tools.
  5. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage with students, colleagues, and industry partners.
  6. Demonstrated commitment to safety and the ability to enforce safety protocols in a learning environment.
  7. Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities simultaneously.
  8. Flexibility and adaptability to accommodate the evolving needs of the building trades program and its students.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

190 day contract. Position starts in August 2024.  Salary and benefits set by Watertown Board of Education in accordance with the state postsecondary technical instructor salary formula.

This position is eligible for Veterans’ Preference.
