Job Title: K-12 Technology Director

Work Days: 260-day contract with 22 days of vacation

Reports To: Superintendent of Schools

 

REQUIREMENTS: Certified for Technology, Computer Science, and Instructional technology as mandated by the state of South Dakota. Extensive experience with computer software, hardware and applications is required, Master’s Degree is preferred.

 

JOB SUMMARY: Provides leadership in the management and implementation of computer hardware, software, and applications, including making recommendations for long-term technology purchases. Offers guidance to administrative staff in aligning technology with the district's vision. Oversees the development and execution of the district's Technology Plan and E-rate program. Directly supervises Technicians and Technology Administrative Assistants.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Develops and implements short- and long-term plans for maintaining, upgrading, and expanding the district’s hardware and software infrastructure.
  2. Prepares and manages the technology budget to support the purchase, maintenance, and replacement of the district’s computer hardware and software.
  3. Collaborates with the superintendent and other administrators to optimize the use of technology in supporting and enhancing staff efficiency and productivity.
  4. Works alongside administrators and technicians to provide ongoing professional development and training opportunities for district staff.
  5. Oversees the district’s technology systems, ensuring regular backups, routine maintenance, and system security are maintained.
  6. Maintains an accurate and up-to-date inventory of all K-12 technology hardware and software within the district.
  7. Drives the district’s technology vision by developing, implementing, and maintaining the K-12 Technology Plan.
  8. Prepares and submits the annual E-Rate grant to secure funding for the district’s technology infrastructure.
  9. Performs other duties as assigned to support the district’s technology operations.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be able to sit, stand and walk without fatigue and discomfort. Must be able to lift 25 pounds.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  2. Climate Environment: Typically, work is conducted in a comfortable environment. Some District work areas are not climate controlled and are subject to extremes of temperature and humidity.
  3. Hazards: For some buildings, stairs, chalk dust and exposure to communicable diseases may be a potential hazard. Travel between schools will cause exposure to hazardous driving and walking conditions.
