DESCRIPTION: Lake Area Technical College is seeking a knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and hands-on Aviation Maintenance Technology Instructor to join our Aviation Maintenance (AVM) program. The ideal candidate will hold a current FAA Airframe and Powerplant Certificate with Inspection Authorization (IA) and possess strong experience in general aviation maintenance, repair, and alterations. The successful applicant will have a passion for technical education, enjoy working with students and colleagues, and have an interest or experience in unmanned aerial systems (UAS) construction and operation.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide instruction in the Airframe and Powerplant subject areas within the AVM program.
- Lead student teams in aircraft maintenance, inspections, and alterations, ensuring safety, accuracy, and compliance with FAA regulations.
- Monitor and enforce safety procedures during student operation of equipment, maintaining a safe and organized shop environment.
- Collaborate with AVM faculty and staff to support a team-based, student-focused learning experience.
- Participate in student recruitment efforts, including campus-wide events, high school visits, career fairs, and industry outreach.
- Maintain instructional materials, assist with curriculum development, and help manage lab equipment and program resources.
- Perform additional responsibilities and duties as assigned to support the mission of Lake Area Technical College.
- Instruction will occur in both classroom and hands-on lab settings, including aircraft hangars and maintenance facilities.
- Occasional travel may be required for recruitment events or professional development.
- Flexibility for occasional evening or weekend events related to student recruitment or program promotion. (Fly In’s)

REPORTS TO: Aviation Maintenance Department Supervisor, Dean of Academics, Vice President
QUALIFICATIONS:
- FAA Airframe and Powerplant Certificate with Inspection Authorization (IA) a plus.
- Extensive knowledge and hands-on experience with general aviation aircraft maintenance, repair, and alteration
- Ability to construct and maintain Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS); model aircraft flight/building experience a plus
- Strong computer literacy and ability to use educational technology tools
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a demonstrated ability to work effectively with young adults and colleagues in a collaborative team environment
- Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) – preferred
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
186-day contract starting August 2025. Salary and benefits set by the Watertown School Board in accordance with the state post-secondary technical instructor salary formula.
