DESCRIPTION:  

Lake Area Technical College is seeking an experienced and knowledgeable Auto Body and Paint Technology Instructor. This position requires extensive expertise in painting within the manufacturing and automotive industries, with a focus on collision repair, painting, and customization. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of three years of relevant employment experience or a related technical college degree, and appropriate certifications in their area of specialty.

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Deliver comprehensive instruction in paint and collision classes to equip students with high-demand skills for auto restoration, bodywork, structural repair, painting, and customizing.
  • Cover a curriculum that includes basic sheet metal work, welding, refinishing, tinting and blending, fiberglass composites, etc.
  • Guide students to achieve industry certification in Auto Body Technician/Specialist and Paint Technology/Painting.
  • Develop innovative and technology-integrated curriculum for all assigned subjects, aligning with the general program objectives outlined in the Auto Body and Paint Technology Program Fact Sheet.
  • Collaborate effectively with other faculty members to maintain a cohesive and effective teaching team.
  • Assist with departmental student recruitment efforts and promote the Auto Body and Paint Technology program.
  • Advise students on academic progress, registration, and other related issues.
  • Provide a positive role model for students and develop and maintain industry connections to enhance student learning and opportunities.
  • Work closely with the Auto Body and Paint Technology Advisory Board to oversee and enhance the program’s curriculum.
  • Identify, obtain, and maintain appropriate industry certifications and program credentials to ensure program quality and relevance.
  • Perform other instructional duties as assigned by the department supervisor, dean of academics, or vice president.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Extensive knowledge in painting and collision repair within the automotive and manufacturing industries.
  • Minimum of three years of related employment experience or a related technical institute degree.
  • Experience in automotive structural repair and collision.
  • Relevant certifications in the specialty area.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and online service information systems, with a willingness to expand computer skills for instructional purposes.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with an affinity for working with young adults and coworkers in a team environment.
  • Bilingual abilities are a plus.

SALARY: - $51,172.00 - $71,641.00

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

186-day contract. Salary and benefits are set by the Watertown Board of Education in accordance with

the state postsecondary technical instructor salary formula.

 

Competitive benefits package including health, dental, generous leave policy, and South Dakota

Retirement System eligibility through the Watertown School District.
