POSITION OVERVIEW: The Cosmetology Lab Aide supports instructional activities within the Cosmetology program by assisting faculty and students in both clinical and preclinical learning environments. This position plays a key role in maintaining a safe, organized, and professional lab setting while supporting student skill development, client services, and daily operations of the cosmetology clinic.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Current cosmetology license in good standing (state-specific).
- Experience working in a salon or cosmetology-related setting.
- Knowledge of sanitation, safety, and infection control practices.
- Prior experience working in an educational or training environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations.
- Organizational skills and attention to detail.
A REPORTS TO: Cosmetology Department Supervisor, Assistant Dean of Academics, and Vice President
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist instructors during clinical and preclinical lab sessions to support student learning and skill development.
- Monitor the clinic floor to ensure safe, sanitary, and professional practices are followed at all times.
- Assist students with proper setup, sanitation, and breakdown of workstations.
- Help maintain inventory of supplies, tools, and products; report shortages as needed.
- Prepare lab areas and equipment prior to class and ensure proper cleanup afterward.
- Support students during client services by helping manage appointments, the flow of clients, and general clinic operations.
- Reinforce program policies, safety standards, and state board requirements.
- Assist with demonstration preparation and instructional activities as directed by faculty.
- Provide guidance to students as they develop skills.
- Maintain a professional learning environment that reflects industry standards.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to support program operations.
- Work performed primarily in a cosmetology lab/salon environment.
- Requires standing for extended periods and performing light physical tasks.
- May involve exposure to typical salon chemicals and products.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and benefits set by the Watertown School Board.
Cosmetology Lab Aide hours for Spring 2026 will be Fridays 8-4 (semester ends 5/15/2026). Total hours up to 125 for the semester. Hourly rate set at $20.70 per hour, paid monthly. |
