RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  1. Deliver high-quality instruction in surgical technology courses, utilizing effective instructional methodologies and incorporating diverse teaching strategies to meet the needs of all learners.
  2. Develop and maintain curriculum materials, including lesson plans, course outlines, and instructional resources, in accordance with program requirements and industry standards.
  3. Facilitate student learning through hands-on laboratory sessions, clinical simulations, and real-world experiences in surgical settings.
  4. Evaluate student performance through assessments, projects, and clinical evaluations, providing constructive feedback and support to promote student growth and achievement.
  5. Collaborate with program faculty and staff to continuously review and improve curriculum, ensuring alignment with industry trends, accreditation standards, and program goals.
  6. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of advancements in surgical technology and educational best practices through professional development activities, conferences, and industry networking.
  7. Foster a positive learning environment that promotes student engagement, critical thinking, and professionalism.
  8. Provide academic advising and support services to students, assisting with career exploration, academic planning, and progression through the program.
  9. Participate in programmatic assessment and evaluation activities, contributing to ongoing program improvement initiatives and accreditation processes.
  10. Engage in collegial collaboration and teamwork with fellow faculty members, clinical partners, and stakeholders to enhance program effectiveness and student success.
  11. Fulfill administrative responsibilities, including record-keeping, attendance tracking, and program reporting, in compliance with college policies and regulatory requirements.
  12. Maintain open communication with students, colleagues, and administration, addressing concerns and fostering a culture of transparency, respect, and inclusivity within the program and college community.

 

REPORTS TO: Department Supervisor, Dean of Academics, Vice President

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Minimum of an Associate Degree in Surgical Technology or related field.
  2. Documented education or experience in instructional methodology, curriculum design, and program planning.
  3. Graduation from an education program in surgical technology accredited by a nationally recognized programmatic accreditation agency.
  4. Possession of a credential in the field of surgical technology through a national certification program accredited by the National Commission on Certifying Agencies (NCCA).
  5. Minimum of five years of experience in the operating room scrub role or as an instructor in surgical technology, or a combination of both, within the past ten years.
  6. Comprehensive knowledge of the curriculum and programmatic requirements for surgical technology education.
  7. Familiarity with student learning assessment and program evaluation methodologies.
  8. Excellent interpersonal skills and a passion for working with students, patients, and colleagues.
  9. Proficiency in computer applications and technology-enhanced learning environments; previous experience teaching online is advantageous.
  10. Previous supervisory experience in an educational or clinical setting preferred.
  11. Bilingual proficiency is a plus.
  12. National Career Readiness Certificate Level Gold or higher is advantageous.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

190 day contract starting Fall 2024 (August). Salary and benefits set by Watertown Board of Education in accordance with the state postsecondary technical instructor salary formula.
