JOB TITLE:  Special Education Classroom Teacher

 

REPORTS TO:  Building Principal

 

SUPERVISES:  Students assigned to caseload

 

WORKS WITH:  Classroom aides, classroom teachers, administrators, other classroom teachers, classified staff, parents, community members

 

QUALIFICATIONS:  Current South Dakota teaching certificate

 

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT AND HOURS OF DUTY:  8:00-4:00

 

JOB SUMMARY:  Works with student in a special education classroom setting on a daily basis teaching students curriculum aligned with their Individual Educational Plan in order to facilitate students’ growth.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. Knowledge of students and learning.
  2. Knowledge of instructional skills and techniques.
  3. Knowledge of classroom and instructional area management.
  4. Develop and utilize lesson plans which incorporate Individual Educational Plan
  5. Work with support staff to gain appropriate services to meet students’ needs.
  6. Communicate with parents on progress of students or other needed topics related to academic achievement
  7. Knowledge/observe District’s Board Policies and Procedures.
  8. Knowledge/observe District’s negotiated Master Contract.
  9. Knowledge/observe individual building procedures.
  10. Knowledge of special education needs of students.
  11. Pursues professional growth.
  12. Perform other duties as assigned.
