POSITION OVERVIEW: The Food Service Director is responsible for overseeing all food service operations at Lake Area Technical College, including the management of Market 65 and the coffee shop, The Mind Grind. This position ensures high-quality food service delivery, efficient operations, and exceptional customer experiences. Additionally, the Food Service Director will coordinate catering services for internal and external guests utilizing Lake Area Tech’s facilities. This role requires a blend of operational oversight, team leadership, and customer-focused service.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in food service management, including experience with catering and coffee shop operations.
  2. Proven leadership experience in staff supervision, training, and development.
  3. Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
  4. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a customer-focused mindset.
  5. Knowledge of food safety, health regulations, and sanitation standards.
  6. Experience in budget management and financial oversight.
  7. Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends, to support catering events.
  8. Ability to stand for extended periods.
  9. May be required to lift up to 50 pounds.
  10. Primarily works within the food service and catering areas on campus.
  11. Some events may require work outside of normal operating hours.
  12. National Career Readiness Certificate Level Silver or higher a plus.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Oversee daily operations of Market 65 and The Mind Grind, ensuring consistent quality in food, beverage offerings, and customer service.
  2. Develop and maintain food service procedures, policies, and standards that align with the institution’s goals.
  3. Monitor food service areas for cleanliness, safety, and compliance with health regulations.
  4. Manage inventory, ordering, and supply management for both food outlets and catering needs.
  5. Hire, train, and supervise food service staff, including chefs, baristas, and support personnel.
  6. Foster a positive, team-oriented work environment that promotes staff development and retention.
  7. Schedule staff, manage workloads, and ensure adequate coverage for day-to-day operations and catering events.
  8. Plan, organize, and manage catering services for events held at Lake Area Tech, including meetings, conferences, and special occasions.
  9. Collaborate with campus departments and external clients to customize menus and ensure successful event execution.
  10. Ensure all catered events are appropriately staffed and supplies are available for high-quality service delivery.
  11. Develop and manage food service and catering budgets, ensuring cost efficiency and profitability.
  12. Track expenses, analyze financial performance, and recommend strategies for improving financial outcomes.
  13. Collaborate with leadership to establish competitive pricing structures for both food service and catering operations.
  14. Create a welcoming atmosphere at Market 65 and The Mind Grind, catering to the diverse needs of students, faculty, and guests.
  15. Monitor customer feedback and continuously seek ways to improve food offerings and service delivery.
  16. Stay current with food industry trends to keep the menu offerings fresh, appealing, and innovative.
  17. The position typically operates Monday through Friday, with an occasional weekend or evening required for a major campus event.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Full-Time 12-month position. Salary and benefits set by the Watertown School board.
