POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Diesel Lab Instructor will support the Diesel Technology program by assisting instructors in
the supervision and instruction of students within the lab environment. This position ensures a
safe, organized, and efficient lab setting for students to apply hands-on skills. The aide will also
maintain tools and equipment, assist with lab safety protocols, and promote the program
through recruitment and promotional activities.


QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Minimum of three years of Diesel Technology shop experience required.
2. Diesel Technology diploma or degree preferred.
3. Experience in repairing agricultural diesel equipment preferred.
4. Computer literate; proficient in using basic software applications.
5. Excellent interpersonal skills; able to work effectively with students and as part of a team.
6. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
7. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while ensuring safety and professionalism.

 


REPORTS TO: Diesel Technology Department Supervisors, Dean of Academics, Vice President


PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Assist instructors in the supervision of students during lab activities and projects.
2. Provide technical assistance to students working on lab assignments, offering guidance
and practical advice.
3. Help maintain a safe and orderly lab environment by monitoring for potential hazards
and enforcing safety protocols.
4. Regularly maintain, clean, and organize lab tools, equipment, and workstations.
5. Act as a substitute instructor in the lab or classroom as needed.
6. Assist in setting up and breaking down equipment for lab exercises and demonstrations.
7. Support promotional efforts, recruitment events, and program showcases.
8. Attend departmental meetings, in-service training, and professional development
opportunities.
9. Serve as a positive role model for students by demonstrating a commitment to quality
work, teamwork, and lifelong learning.
10. Must be able to lift and move heavy equipment as needed.
11. Requires standing for extended periods in a shop environment.
12. Ability to work in noisy, where diesel equipment is being operated.
13. This position primarily operates in a lab/shop setting, with occasional work in a classroom
environment. The aide must be comfortable working around diesel engines, machinery,
and automotive tools.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 186-day contract starting August 2025. Salary and benefits set by the Watertown School Board in accordance with the state post-secondary technical instructor salary formula.
