POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Childcare Worker II at Lake Area Technical College Educare plays a vital role in creating a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment for young children. This position is responsible for planning and implementing developmentally appropriate activities that foster intellectual, social, emotional, and physical growth. The Childcare Worker II collaborates with fellow staff to ensure high-quality care, maintains a clean and organized classroom, communicates effectively with parents, and upholds all South Dakota State Department of Social Services standards. This role requires a warm and caring demeanor, strong teamwork skills, and a commitment to promoting each child’s positive self-image and love of learning.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Childcare education and experience preferred.
- Additional experience in a preschool setting a plus.
- Leadership qualities; outgoing, friendly, creative, and a genuine love for children.
- Meets South Dakota State Department of Social Services standards.
- Professional personal appearance appropriate for childcare.
- Excellent people skills with the ability to develop positive relationships with children, parents, and staff.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team to provide high-quality childcare services.
REPORTS TO: Educare Center Director, Vice President
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plan and implement developmentally appropriate activities that promote intellectual, social/emotional, and physical growth in a nurturing environment.
- Communicate regularly with parents regarding activities and child progress
- Work cooperatively with all childcare staff to ensure program objectives are met.
- Oversee the supervision and organization of assigned classroom.
- Participate in in-service training sessions to enhance knowledge and meet continuing education requirements as determined by the Department of Social Services.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding all parent, child, student, and employee matters.
- Follow infection control guidelines by sanitizing self, work areas, play spaces, and eating areas.
- Keep accurate records of children’s attendance.
- Maintain required child-to-teacher ratios in both classroom and playground settings.
- Assess and respond to each child’s individual needs, utilizing available resources.
- Promote positive self-image in children, parents, students, and staff.
- Assist with serving meals and snacks.
- Maintain classroom appearance, décor, and learning environment to ensure cleanliness, organization, and safety.
- Communicate pertinent information promptly to the Educare Director.
- Establish rapport with staff and demonstrate a team-oriented mindset.
- Maintain a professional and positive attitude at all times.
- Greet visitors and provide facility tours as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Full-time, hourly position with salary and benefits set by the Watertown School Board.
- Schedule: 40 hours per week, 12 months annually.
- Hours and days may vary as determined by the Educare Director to maintain efficient staff-to-child ratios.
