TITLE: Childcare Worker I
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Childcare Worker I play a vital role in supporting a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment for children at Lake Area Technical College’s Educare Center. This position assists in implementing developmentally appropriate activities that promote the intellectual, social, emotional, and physical growth of children while fostering positive relationships with parents, staff, and students. The Childcare Worker I work under the guidance of the Educare Center Director and Asst. Director and contributes to a collaborative, caring team that ensures the highest quality childcare services.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plan and implement developmentally appropriate activities that promote intellectual, social/emotional, and physical growth within a loving environment.
- Communicate activities and relevant information to parents.
- Work cooperatively with the daycare staff to ensure program objectives are met.
- Assist with the supervision and organization of the assigned room.
- Participate in in-service training sessions to improve knowledge and skills to meet continuing education requirements set by the Department of Social Services.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding all discussions and occurrences involving parents, children, students, or employees.
- Maintain infection control by sanitizing self, work, play, and eating areas.
- Keep accurate records of children’s attendance.
- Maintain proper child-to-teacher ratios in classrooms and on the playground.
- Assess individual needs of children and address them as resources allow.
- Promote positive self-image in parents, children, students, and staff.
- Assist in serving meals and snacks to children.
- Maintain the arrangement, appearance, décor, and safety of the classroom to ensure a clean, orderly, and safe environment.
- Communicate pertinent information to the immediate supervisor.
- Establish rapport with staff and work collaboratively as a team member.
- Maintain a professional attitude at all times.
- Greet visitors and provide tours when necessary.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
A REPORTS TO: Educare Center Director, Vice President
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Childcare education and experience preferred.
- Additional experience in a preschool setting a plus.
- Leadership qualities; outgoing, friendly, creative, and a love for working with children.
- Meets South Dakota State Department of Social Services standards.
- Professional personal appearance appropriate to childcare.
- Excellent people skills.
- Ability to work as part of a team to provide quality childcare services.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Hourly, part-time temporary position; salary set by the Watertown School Board.
- Benefits are not provided.
- Hours will vary throughout the year as determined by the Educare Director to maintain efficient staff-to-child ratios, not to exceed 30 hours per week.
