Job Title: Mechanic
Work Days: 12 months, 8:00 to 5:00, may be flexible schedule
Reports To: Transportation Director
REQUIREMENTS: High school diploma or equivalency, two years’ experience with diesel engines or comparable training, and working knowledge of gasoline engines.Employees are required to supply their own standard hand tools needed to perform job responsibilities. The District provides a tool allowance to assist with the purchase and maintenance of required tools.
JOB SUMMARY: Assists the Transportation Director in maintaining and servicing District transportation vehicles and equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations. Responsibilities include preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on a wide range of equipment, including diesel buses, suburbans, pickups, SUVs, and all mowing and grounds equipment. Supports daily operational needs by helping keep the fleet in compliance with safety standards and ready for student transportation and District use.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Services, repairs and maintains District owned vehicles, central maintenance and grounds
equipment
2. Maintains all maintenance records
3. Uses acetylene and arc welding equipment
4. Is responsible for the basic operation of the Transportation Department in the absence of the
Transportation Director
5. Assists with the daily operation of student transportation, pulling stuck buses, repairing/replacing
buses that break down on the route, and assisting with the daily transfer of students between buses
at the District transfer site
6. Serves as a substitute bus driver as necessary (must hold the appropriate driver’s license)
7. Assists and provides technical advice to the Transportation Director in the operation and
maintenance of shop, transportation equipment, and mowing and grounds equipment
8. Responsible for the general cleanliness and organization of the shop area
9. Assists with snow removal (including weekends, if necessary)
10. Operates a variety of grounds maintenance equipment
11. Lifts moderate to heavy loads
12. Performs such other duties as assigned by the Transportation Director

carry 25 pounds and be able to pull or push 50 pounds.
