POSITION OVERVIEW: Lake Area Technical College is seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented, and technology adept Educational Specialist to coordinate functions within the Academics department. These include maintaining curriculum integrity, faculty credentialing, concurrent credit partnerships, and academic effectiveness. This position plays a critical role in ensuring compliance with accreditation requirements, supporting instructional staff, and maintaining academic records and systems essential to student and institutional success.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in academic processes, educational methodology, and operational systems, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field.
- Strong background in educational methodology and academic practices, particularly in higher education.
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Teams) and Adobe Acrobat Pro.
- Experience with learning management systems (LMS), preferably MYPortal.
- Experience with SoftChalk or similar instructional technology tools.
- Experience with academic databases, curriculum systems, faculty credential systems, and student information systems (ex. Jenzabar) preferred.
- Familiarity with AI tools.
- Familiarity with accreditation processes and academic compliance requirements is a plus.
- Experience supporting concurrent or dual credit programs is a plus.
A REPORTS TO: Dean of Academics, Vice President
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Track and maintain all curriculum changes, including course outlines, learning outcomes, program revisions, and updates in Jenzabar, the college catalog, and website.
- Monitor program modifications and prepare documentation required for reporting to the Board of Technical Education and accreditation agencies. Maintain and update the SD Board of Technical Education (BOTE) database.
- Ensure curriculum records remain accurate, current, and compliant with institutional and regulatory standards.
- Maintain and update credential records for all instructional staff, including transcripts, certifications, and professional development documentation.
- Upload and manage faculty credentials within institutional assessment systems such as SPOL and Watermark.
- Coordinate and organize faculty credential committee meetings each semester.
- Serve as primary liaison for concurrent credit instructors, coordinating syllabi, instructional materials, instructor qualifications, and assessments to meet quality standards. Provide technical assistance for access to and use of the college’s learning management system.
- Manage instructor documentation, including transcripts, syllabi updates, and credential verification for the Faculty Excellence Portfolios.
- Provide technical support for full-time and adjunct instructors related to academic systems and processes, including MyPortal and instructional technology tools.
- Manage and coordinate adjunct faculty hiring documentation and onboarding.
- Review course syllabi for all academic programs each semester.
- Provide syllabi and academic documentation for transfer requests and former students.
- Conduct routine monitoring of course activity in MYPortal, including coursework, grades, and instructor feedback compliance.
- Process academic department billing and invoicing.
- Maintain accurate records and support institutional reporting needs.
- Support accreditation, compliance, and academic reporting processes.
- Some travel required to conferences.
- Other duties as assigned.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and benefits set by the Watertown School Board. $55,000 - $68,000, depending on experience and credentials related to the position. 220-day contract. This position will ideally start on or around June 1,2026.
