Position Summary:
Lake Area Technical College is seeking a highly motivated and knowledgeable Automotive Technology Instructor to join our faculty team. The successful candidate will provide hands-on and classroom instruction to prepare students for careers in the automotive service industry. This position requires current industry experience, strong instructional skills, and a commitment to student success.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Automotive Technology.
- Minimum of three (3) years of professional work experience in the automotive service field.
- ASE Master Certification or the ability to achieve certification within one year of hire. L1 Advanced Drivability Certification required.
- Experience working in a new car/truck dealership is a plus.
- Previous teaching experience in a campus and/or online environment is desirable.
- Proficiency in dealer management software and ability to integrate technology into instructional delivery.
- Strong classroom management and organizational skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a demonstrated ability to work effectively with young adults and colleagues in a team-oriented setting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver engaging, hands-on instruction in both classroom and lab settings on topics such as:
- Gas and Diesel Fuel Delivery Systems
- Gas Ignition Systems
- Gas and Diesel Emission Systems
- Develop and update curriculum and course materials aligned with industry standards, incorporating innovative instructional technology where appropriate.
- Utilize Lake Area Tech's learning management system (MyPortal) to manage course content and student engagement.
- Maintain awareness of current industry trends, technologies, and certification standards.
- Collaborate with fellow instructors to ensure a cohesive, team-based instructional approach.
- Enforce program policies related to safety, attendance, conduct, and professional appearance.
- Maintain accurate records, manage lab equipment and inventory, and ensure a safe, efficient learning environment.
- Assist with departmental outreach, recruitment events, and other public relations initiatives to promote the program and college.
- Perform additional instructional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 186-day contract starting August 2025. Salary and benefits set by the Watertown School Board in accordance with the state post-secondary technical instructor salary formula.
